Description
During the Spanish-American War of 1898, Spanish prisoners of war were housed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Over 1,600 prisoners were here. This image shows a Spanish officer in chains. Local residents observed the arrival of the prisoners from a nearby hill.
