Description
President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Senator Margaret Chase Smith in a food serving line at Senator Smith's home in Skowhegan. Governor and Jane Muskie are behind them.
The President vacationed in Maine and later came to give a speech at the Skowhegan Fair Grounds. Senator Smith set up a lobster and clambake area on the west side of her lawn for the Press Corps following the President's speech. President Eisenhower enjoyed a steak barbecue on the Senator's back lawn. The President seasoned and cooked his own steak, and later reports indicate he overlooked strict doctors orders and ate lobster too.
