Description
This group photograph was taken at a Portland-Monson Slate Company celebration in Monson, around about 1916. Information written on the back of the photo indicates it was taken during World War I.
It appears that women and children are standing at the front of the group with the quarry workers behind them and the the Monson Band among the crowd standing atop a riser of sorts. The Monson Band was formed in 1887 and continued to entertain throughout Maine until it disbanded in 1950.
