Description
This photo shows twenty members of the original Dixfield Band. Ten members are seated on a horse-drawn wagon, and ten are standing in front. All members are holding their musical instruments.
The band was well known in Dixfield and the State of Maine. G. Dana Holt, cornetist and leader, also played with the famous Sousa Band and was honored by the Portland and Bangor Symphonies. His own composition, "The Festival Overture" was played by the Bangor Symphony and the U.S. Navy Band. He also taught music and instruments at the Maine Conservatory of Music where he was considered a very accomplished musician.
