Description
In 1866, the construction of the cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland began under the supervision of New York architect, Patrick C. Keeley. By 1866, when the walls of the cathedral were nearly finished, a fire destroyed most of the structure. The rebuilding began two years later, and in 1869 the cathedral was dedicated.
The structure represents a neo-Gothic style of architecture. One of the building's steeples has a vertical height of 204' high, which makes it the tallest structure in Portland.
The cathedral is located at 307 Congress Street.
