Description
Sardine Carriers seen from a stern view so the names are identifiable. Working from right to left are the Helen McColl, the Surfman, and the A.T. Haynes.
Paul Stubing said the A.T. Haynes was a former schooner made into a supply boat that carried barrels, oil and coal. It was built in Manset in about 1869. Eventually the A.T. Haynes was hauled up between the coal wharf and town dock, where it stayed there quite awhile until a group of fisherman bought her.
The A.T. Haynes was then sold to fishermen in Bass Harbor and used for the same purpose. It eventually was hauled out in a little cove by Crockett Point and parts of it are probably still there.
The Surfman was owned by the Addison Packing Company of Southwest Harbor.
