Description

This photograph was taken of a group of quarrymen for the Monson-Slate Company at a quarry in Monson.

The Monson-Slate Company took annual photographs of workers and occasionally took photographs that depicted life at the quarries.

Some of the men in the front row are holding what were considered their lunch boxes. These metal containers held tea, soup, coffee or just hot water in the bottom, followed by a fitted bowl which would hold their lunch, which was kept warm by the liquid below.

Only one of the men in this photograph is identified. That is Oscar Suomi, who is shown standing in the center of the group with the striped sweater.
