Description
Pictured is the third floor dining room and kitchen of the Island Division Bag Mill employee housing for the Oxford Paper Company in Rumford. The housing projects began in early 1946 and by August 8, 1946 the construction of housing at the Island Division of the Bag Mill for bachelor employees was completed.
In 1945 World War II ended and Hugh J. Chisholm Jr. pushed forward with the biggest expansion program in the history of the Oxford Paper Company. With many young men from the area returned home and the building of two large paper machines, No. 11 and No. 12, housing was needed.
