Description
Pvt. Leonard Jordan of Co. D of the 10th Maine Infantry wrote to his mother in Portland on June 20, 1863, to report on his regiment's march to Leesburg.
Jordan noted that he did not march, but rode in an ambulance, a privilege afforded to all clerks.
He discussed the possible reorganization of the 10th Maine. He also wrote that he hoped the Rebels, now moving into Pennsylvania, would be prevented from going further north. His letter was written a few weeks before the Battle of Gettysburg when Robert E. Lee's army was defeated and prevented from going further north.
He signed the letter "From your Soldier Boy."
