Description
John S. Longfellow of Cornville was 19 when he enlisted in Co. D of the 24th Maine Infantry Regiment on Oct. 13, 1862. He posed in uniform for the tintype.
His brother Horatio entered the same company and regiment. Both survived the war.
John, born May 7, 1843, was the eldest child of Samuel and Sarah Winslow Longfellow. Horatio, born May 11, 1845, was the next of the six children.
John died in 1890 after suffering from the effects of swamp fever he contracted with serving in Louisiana.
