The Centre d'Héritage Franco-Américain (Franco-American Heritage Center) was founded in Lewiston in 1971-2, with the aim of preserving what was then seen as a disappearing culture. The non-profit group funded arts and cultural performances, and operated a library and museum until 1989, when the group disbanded and the Centre's assets were transferred to the University of Maine. These artifacts are now part of the Franco-American Collection at the University of Southern Maine.
This photograph was probably taken at the Centre's first location, at the Intown Manor, at 81 Ash Street in Lewiston.
