Description

The birthplace of Thomas Reed (Congress member from 1876 to 1899) mirrored the federalist style architecture of the 19th century. The three story home included a basement, a cellar, and two guest bedrooms. Behind the house was a small backyard enclosed with a fence. The construction date of the house is unknown, however, as of 2013, the structure is still standing today.

Thomas B. Reed was noted for his large presence, his wit, and his exceptional parliamentary ability. Reed had a sarcastic personality, and he defined a statesman as "a successful politician who is dead." Portland erected a statue in his honor on the Western Promenade.
