Description
On July 10, 1901, a competition was held on Moosehead Lake between the Steamboats Rebecca (closest) which was owned by J.H. Eveleth and the Priscilla (third back) owned by W.M. Shaw. They are shown here as they line up for the race; their boilers hot and ready. There was a hundred dollar bet between the two boat owners and many more bets on the side. A committee was selected to see that all was proper and a set of rules was drawn up and duly signed by both parties. The Rebecca proved to be the faster of the two vessels.
