Description
Adeline M. Walker wrote to thank the Young Ladies' R.F. Society in Portland for supplies sent for wounded and ill soldiers in the Naval Academy Hospital in Annapolis that was serving as a Union hospital.
The letter is addressed to Maria T. Hersey, secretary of the group. Walker, a native of Portland who served at the hospital in Annapolis from about the fall of 1862 until her death there of typhus, corresponded with Hersey, who she apparently knew from Portland.
She noted that some of the items had spoiled and some bottles had been broken, but that the soldiers especially appreciated the tea and the pickles.
