Description
This leather fire bucket honors Cyrus Keay, who joined the Androscoggin No. 2 hand engine company in June of 1871. He was a lifetime member of the company, and the oldest surviving member at his death in April of 1930. Keay was born in Bowdoinham to Thomas C. and Lovina Barnes Kay; the family moved to Topsham when Cyrus was nine. He is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Topsham.
The Androscoggin Fire Company of Topsham was created to operate the 1850 hand engine which was active in Topsham until 1919. After that time, and until the 1970s, it was used in, and won, numerous fire muster competitions.
