Description

This postcard is an invitation to worship at the Dixfield Congregational "Church on the Hill," as it appears in 2006. The addition to the left was built in 1961 to provide a place for Sunday School to be held and a meeting area for parish functions. The front porch, or portico, was built sometime between 1855 and 1912. The porch replaced the two entrance doors; the left door being for men and the right door for women. Meeting in separate places of worship beginning in 1806, the Universalists, Methodists, and Baptists formed a union in 1912 that led to the Congregational Church as it is known today.
