Description
Looking to the southeast from the deck of the bridge over the "Gut" in South Bristol village, the former Gray's Store was in a state of major disrepair in 1997. Since it was built around the turn of the century, it has been a grocery store, restaurant, storage room, and once it even had a dance hall on the second floor. The warning lights and red-striped barrier in the center of the image warn motorists when the bridge is about to swing open to allow marine traffic to pass back and forth between John's Bay and the Damariscotta River.
