Description
Merril Knight, Peru's first settler, built this home about 1810 after building a log home earlier. It was the first frame house in town, and is still being lived in today (2013). It sits on a the rise above the Androscoggin River overlooking a valley in the original settlement area. The road in the picture was the first County Road that went over the mountain from Peru Center to Paris. It also went downhill to the Androscoggin River and Knight's ferry.
