Description
This image from the "Mechanics Institute, Rumford, Maine" booklet, handed out at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new building, shows the Governor's Room. The Governor's room was the location for the meeting of the directors and officers of the facility.
The founder of the Mechanics Institute, Oxford Paper Company owner Hugh J. Chisholm, leased land valued at $30,000 for 100 years for the creation of the Institute. The board was comprised of Chisholm's influential friends and business associates.
The booklet was published by University Press, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
