Description
This photograph from about 1940 is of the interior of the Maine Baking Company on Minot Avenue in Auburn. The sign in the window reads "For your protection our bread is Sterilamp Conditioned", meaning it was pasteurized. The Maine Baking Company was known for its attention to hygiene and its adoption modern technology. The bakery opened in 1922 and closed in 1955.
