Contributed by Joyce Carle through Princeton Public Library
Description
This picture, taken in August of 1974, is of the "Dixie Schoolhouse" which was in Plantation 21, now called Big Lake Township. The site of the Dixie School is where the town building is now, in 2013.
Joyce Carle remembers attending this one-room schoolhouse in the 1930s. There were thirty-three children in 9 grades and Porter Perkins was her teacher when she started in the first grade. She also remembers when the Princeton "lower district" school closed because the Dixie School got desks that could seat two students to a desk.
