Description
Letter to Sarah Tarbox while she was living in Richmond Corners with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Daniel Webber. Sarah lived with the Webbers while teaching in Richmond. Franklin writes from home on Westport, (the envelope is marked Woolwich, the transit location for Westport mail). Franklin refers to Capt. Plummer staying at the Tarbox home while with fever "nague" (fever'n'ague, an acute fever characterized by chills). He also writes of receiving a letter from brother Valentine, a traveling daguerreotype photographer in mid-coastal Maine.
Sarah Tarbox, born January 7, 1823, and Benjamin "Franklin" Tarbox, born April 17, 1829, were two of the 12 children of Polly Brown and Samuel Tarbox, a wealthy landowner, gentleman farmer and town official in Westport Island, Maine.
