Description
Valentine Tarbox writes home to sister Sarah, Westport, about arriving in Surry for his daguerreotype business. Valentine was a traveling daguerreotypist in Hancock and Washington counties at the time this letter was written, and Sarah was a teacher.
Valentine (b. 10-18-1827) and Sarah Tarbox (b. 01-07-1823) are two of the children of Mary "Polly" and Samuel Tarbox. Samuel Tarbox was a wealthy landowner, ship building investor, and town official in Westport Island.
