Description
Valentine Tarbox writes home to his sister Sarah, Westport, about setting up his daguerreotype business in East Machias with his business partner, "Keith". Valentine was a traveling daguerreotypist in Hancock and Washington counties when this letter was written.
Valentine speaks of "Lavinia." Valentine and Lavinia Tibbetts (Brooksville, ME) married on July 4, 1851, in Providence, R.I.
Valentine (b. 10-18-1827) and Sarah Tarbox (b. 01-07-1823) were two of the children of Mary "Polly" and Samuel Tarbox, Westport, ME. Samuel Tarbox was a wealthy landowner, ship building investor, and town official in Westport.
