Description
Valentine Tarbox writes home to his sister, Sarah, Westport, describing the town of Orland, where he has recently set up his daguerreotype operation. Valentine was a traveling daguerreotypist in Hancock and Washington counties when this letter was written. He wrote a series of letters to his sister with news of his business travels.
Valentine (b. 10-18-1827) and Sarah Tarbox (b. 01-07-1823) are two of the 12 children of Mary "Polly" and Samuel Tarbox. Samuel Tarbox was a wealthy landowner, fishing and shipping merchant, and civic leader in Westport Island.
