Description
Valentine Tarbox writes to sister, Sarah Tarbox, to tell her about his second semester at the Maine Wesleyan Seminary at Kents Hill in Readfield. In August 1841, the Maine Wesleyan Seminary had new leadership and staff as part of their struggle to survive a financial crisis. Sarah Tarbox is living and teaching in Richmond.
Sarah Tarbox was born on January 7, 1823 on Westport Island (the Town of Edgecomb until incorporated as Westport in 1828). Her brother, Valentine was born on October 18, 1827, and they were two of the 12 children of Mary "Polly" Brown and Samuel Tarbox, a Westport Island gentleman farmer, investor and land trader.
