Description
In this postcard from the 1920s, the Monhegan is steaming along the coast of Maine. The Monhegan was built in Rockland, Maine, in 1903 to the specifications of Captain I. E. Archibald.
It was his largest steamboat, with a length of 128 feet and a breadth of 26.7 feet. Though the Monhegan was the flagship of his fleet, Archibald sold her in 1906, after which she passed through a number of owners.
The Monhegan brought both passengers and freight to Friendship year round on a regular basis until sea-borne vessels were eclipsed by the automotive business.
