Description
Writing from Carver Hospital in Washington, D.C., Pvt. George M. Redlon of Co. B, 4th Maine Infantry, wrote to his father about his progress in recovering from a wound to his left arm that required amputation of the arm above the elbow.
Redlon's short letter notes that the flies "plagued" him and that cold weather would help all those trying to recover from wounds. He closed the letter, "I am so tired."
Redlon, who was injured in the Battle of Chantilly, died of his injury 11 days after writing the letter.
