Description
In this photograph, Mamie and Jesse Adams are at the reins of their horse-drawn hay wagon as they prepare to go into their fields to gather hay in the summer of 1955. Their farm homestead was originally built by Jonathan Holman, son of Col. Jonathan Holman who founded Holmantown in 1796. Dixfield Common was the center of the growing community at that time. Holmantown was later incorporated as Dixfield in 1803.
Dixfield Common continues to be home to many Holman descendants.
