Description
Sarah Tarbox's brother, Franklin, writes to tell her about his studies at Kent's Hill School and comments about the politics surrounding proposed road and bridge construction on Westport. Town records document that the roads issues were very contentious. Westport Selectmen at the time were: William Greenleaf, Hartly Dunton and Samuel Dunton.
Sarah Tarbox, was born on January 7, 1823 and was the daughter of Samuel Tarbox, a wealthy landowner, gentleman farmer and town official in Westport Island, Maine. In June 1848, when Westport residents voted to create a committee to investigate the funds needed to build a new county road and bridge, he was one of the three men chosen.
Kents Hill School, in Readfield Maine, was founded as the Maine Wesleyan Seminary in 1824.
