“Hornet’s Nest” School, Lubec, 1906, 1906

Contributed by Lubec Historical Society

Description

This postcards shows one of Lubec's many one room school houses from the turn of the century. This view from the rear shows South Lubec road in front, beyond that is Lubec Channel, and in the far distance a bit of Campobello Island can also be seen.

In addition to the large grammar and high school known as Hilltop School within Lubec village, the Town operated up to a dozen “one-room” schoolhouses in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The building pictured here is now a residence at 19 South Lubec Road, much enlarged and changed in 2013.
