Description

Cumberland Hotel, Main Street, Bridgton.

This tax record, created around 1938, refers to the Cumberland Hotel, also known as the Cumberland House, which stood on the corner of Main Street and Bacon Street in Bridgton for many years. The name Blanche C. Bridge was added at an unknown time as the owner. The card references a deed dated 1936; this is not the date of the photograph. The original building was built in the early 1800s, with major renovations and additions in the last quarter of that century. In the 1930s the building was converted into an apartment house. It was torn down in 1970 to make a Dairy Queen restaurant. The current address (2016) is 88 Main St.
