Description
North Neighborhood School, a one room schoolhouse, is pictured here with students and their teachers standing in front of it. The school was located on the Elliotsville Road in Monson and is no longer standing.
The town of Monson had eight schools located throughout the various outlaying districts of town from 1880 to 1939. Lack of transportation necessitated that neighborhood schools be built so that local children could walk to school, even if only two or three families made up the student population for a particular school.
