Order of Supplies from Morse Co. for A.C. Savage & Sons, Northeast Harbor, 1898

Contributed by Mount Desert Island Historical Society

Description

This is a copy of a page in a record book of correspondence from A.C. Savage and Sons in Northeast Harbor. Most of the correspondence is in the hand of George A. Savage, son of A.C. Savage. This particular order for lumber and supplies is related to a construction project of A.C. Savage's that was done over the winter and spring of 1898 to renovate and enlarge at least one of the cottages used as rental units in the summer through the Asticou Inn family business.

Savage also built cottages for nearby summer residents on the eastern edge of Northeast Harbor from the mid 1840s until his death in 1911. The construction business was a winter family occupation while inn-keeping was their summer trade.
