Description
This Fire Department float was in the Centennial celebration parade in Princeton on July 5, 1932. There were twenty floats in the Centennial Parade. Pictured on the float from left to right are: unidentified, Harry McDowell, unidentified, Arleigh Hold, unidentified, Peter McDowell and Jimmie Bailey. Earlier, in 1913, the town bought its second fire engine which was a "chemical one" that cost one hundred dollars.
Bruce Belmore wrote in the book Early Princeton about one of the Congregational Church pastors, Rev. Charles H. McElhinney, as "a forceful, solid man, equally good whether in his pulpit or on the bridge of the town's old hand fire-engine. He was always one of the first to answer the fire bell which incidentally was the church bell."
