Description
John D. Conley of Bangor was 33 when he enlisted as a 1st sergeant in Co. H of the 16th Maine Infantry on Aug. 14, 1862. He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant on Dec. 13, 1862, then to captain on May 22, 1863.
He was captured during the Battle of Weldon Railroad in Virginia on August 18, 1864 and exchanged for a Confederate prisoner on February 22, 1865.
Conley served until June 5, 1865.
