Description
The apartment houses, or tenements, on Pike Street were contstructed around 1880 to house workers employed by the Westbrook Manufacturing Company, sometimes referred to as the gingham mill.
In 1881, the company installed new machinery imported from Scotland and also hired 42 expert Scottish weavers, who settled in the newly constructed apartments. The Pike St. area is still known today, in 2013, as Scotch Hill.
