Description
Lieutenant Charles Appleton Longfellow, son of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and his friend Lieutenant Daniel Henry Lawrence Gleason, both of the 1st Massachusetts Volunteer Cavalry, Army of the Potomac posed for a photograph in Culpeper, Virginia, in October 1863.
Charles A. Longfellow was wounded the following month, on November 27, 1863, during action near New Hope Church, Virginia.
