Description
The Williams Block at Madison Avenue and Elm Street in Skowhegan.
The photo shows the Fuller drug store at left. Albert Fuller was a dry goods merchant. Over the entrance are signs for three attorneys, J. D. Brown and W. M. E. Brown, brothers, and James B. Bell.
Also visible is Henry Plummer, dry goods merchant. Benjamin R. Flagg operated the corner store, in the Williams Building.
The Littlefield Building, on Elm Street, just beyond the Williams Building, was a printing office for many years. At various times, the Democratic Clarion, the Republican Clarion and the Somerset Argus were priinted there.
The Farwell home shows at the extreme right. Artemus Ward (Charles Farrar Brown), a famous humorist who worked in the printing office nearby, boarded there.
