Description
The Westbrook Congregational church was built in 1834, at the cost of $2300.00. Much of the lumber was donated, and the stone foundation built by the men of the parish.
Two wood stoves provided the heat for the building. The box pews were purchased by those attending the services and had latches that here latched during the services. There were also some pews that were "let" to people who didn't own a pew. The choir and organ were located at the rear of the church, and a Paul Revere bell hung in the belfry.
The church was razed in the early 1970's as part of Westbrook's Urban Renewal plan and a new church, the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, was built on nearby Main Street. The Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church served to combined the congregational parishes of the towns of Westbrook and Warren.
