Description
The Buckfield Branch Railroad Company was chartered in 1847, opened in 1849, but sold under foreclosure in 1856, and acquired by the Portland & Oxford Central Railroad Company, and extended to Canton. The road was abandoned and for many years fell into disuse. The Rumford Falls & Buckfield Railroad Company became owners of the property, restored the road, furnished new rolling stock, and resumed operations in 1878, and extended it to Gilbertvile in 1879.
