Description
The Children's Room of the Walker Memorial Library was located in the lower level of the library in the 1930s.
In 1938 the Ammoncongin Literary Club of Westbrook raised funds to furnish the Children's Room. The club also provided funds for equipment and upkeep of the Children's Room until they disbanded in 1969. When the club disbanded they left the balance in their treasury for the purchase of films and books for the Children's Room.
The mural that stretches across the length of the wall in the room depicts nursery rhymes. It was painted by students of Ansel Sterling, the Westbrook High School art director, and was dedicated in the fall of 1943.
