Description
This photograph of the Lake House was taken around the turn of the century, before paved roads were common in Waterford.
The Lake House, built in 1797, was the first building built in the area known as Waterford Flat. It was constructed by Eli Longley, a prominent businessman, who operated the property as a tavern and an inn. Lake House started out as a one story frame house and was used afterwards as the ell to the two story addition. The second story of the ell housed the ballroom and hotel post office.
