Description
This building was next to the apartment building that was the birthplace of William S. Cohen (former United States Secretary of Defense, Senator, and Representative). Barely visible, a man is sitting on the stoop in the lower left of the photograph.
Several photographs in the William S. Cohen papers were taken before this and other buildings along Hancock Street were torn down as a part of an urban renewal project for Bangor in the late 1970s. The demolition of his birth home became the subject of one of Cohen's poems called "Hancock Street," published in Of Sons and Seasons by Simon and Schuster in 1978.
