Description
The Portland Montgomery Guards, who were of Irish heritage, and the Massachusetts's Lawrence Light Infantry
held a Grand Reception Ball and Drill in Portland on May 13, 1881.
The event included music by Chandler’s Military Band, with prompter D.H. Chandler; six military drills, and 14 dance numbers, ranging from waltz to polka.
