Description
This photograph was taken on Water Street in Monson as Wayne and Estella Bennett take their son Aaron to the Monson Snowroller Day celebration. The antique sleigh is all wooden except for the runners which have a thin metal strap making it glide on the snow. The Monson Historical Society owns the antique roller and have held an annual snowroller event in February since 1975. Skating competitions, snowshoe and kick sled races are among the events for this family-oriented day. Since 2010 the roller hasn't been demonstrated by rolling the streets of Monson with a team of horses because of damage being done to the roller. The snowroller continues to be a static display at the Monson Museum and is the most popular display in our collection.
