Description
A Hack and horses from the B. F. Roberts Stable are shown here stopped at the intersection of Main and Bridge streets. Benjamin F. Roberts, ran a livery stable at the rear of the Presumpscot House, a hotel on Main St. not far from that intersection. Though it is unclear when this business was started, the first reference to this business is in an 1883 advertisement for the stable.
A half page ad in the 1885 Westbrook City directory lists the B. F. Roberts, Livery, Boarding, and Baiting Stable, and says at the bottom of the ad, "A first-class set of teams always ready, either single or double. Pleasant teams for ladies' Driving." Benjamin Roberts died May 15, 1898.
