Description
This postcard shows the second Sullivan High School. The first Sullivan High School was destroyed by fire in 1894 and was replaced with this building, on the same plot of land on School Street. Though it is called the Sullivan High School, it also served as a grammar school.
This building was constructed at a cost of $10,000, just $1,000 more than the original school. Following the construction of this second school the then Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Francis Grovenor, was quoted as saying, "Few schools in the country have a building so pleasantly situated and so well arranged, so admirably adapted in every way for the purposes for which it was constructed."
This building was destroyed by fire on June 6, 1927.
