Description
This photograph of the Cumberland Mills station of the Maine Central Railroad was taken in 1894. The station was located at the corner of Rochester and Main Streets. It was made up of 2 sections; the older section housed the freight office and the newer section was for passengers. It also was the home to the telegraph office and had a telephone.
From this station one could travel through Windham to Fryeburg and on to New Hampshire, or southwest to Rochester New Hampshire where The S.D. Warren Company (now Sappi), received supplies and shipped paper through the Cumberland Mills Station. Sappi owns the remaining portion of the station and uses it for storage.
