Description
Merritt G. Pride owned the Gulf filling station in Westbrook, which he operated from the early 1930s to the late 1940s.
It was then owned by a succession of others, and the name changed throughout the next 15 years from Ace Gulf, to Ray's Gulf, to Herm & Bob's Gulf, to Ace Oil Company. The station closed in the mid 1960s.
The lot where the station had been became a retail shop that housed a state liquor store and Albert's Pharmacy and in 2013, was the Friendly Discount store.
